When you seek sustenance from Allah, the most powerful dua combines sincere supplication with trust in His decree, acknowledging that all provision ultimately comes from Him alone. Dua from the Quran: Seeking Noble Provision

Allah promises noble provision (

) to believers who are obedient and do righteous deeds. He says:

{ "وَمَن يَقْنُتْ مِنكُنَّ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَتَعْمَلْ صَـٰلِحًۭا نُّؤْتِهَآ أَجْرَهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لَهَا رِزْقًۭا كَرِيمًۭا" }

Transliteration: "Wa man yaqnut minkunna lillahi wa rasoolihi wa ta'mal salihan nu'tiha ajraha marratayni wa a'tadna laha rizqan kareema."

Meaning: "And whosoever of you is obedient to Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ), and does righteous good deeds, We shall give her, her reward twice over, and We have prepared for her Rizq Karim (a noble provision - Paradise)."

This verse highlights that the ultimate noble provision is Paradise, but it also serves as a reminder that obedience and righteous deeds open the doors to Allah’s blessings in this life and the next. Another verse reinforces this:

{ "لِّيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ وَرِزْقٌۭ كَرِيمٌۭ" }

Transliteration: "Li yajziyal-ladheena aamanu wa 'amilus-salihati ula'ika lahum maghfiratun wa rizqun kareem."

Meaning: "That He may recompense those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds. Those, theirs is forgiveness and Rizq Karim (generous provision, i.e. Paradise)."

The Comprehensive Dua for Sustenance

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught a powerful dua that encompasses all types of provision—spiritual, physical, and eternal. It is narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet ﷺ used to say after Fajr prayer:

{ "اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا" }

Transliteration: "Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan."

Meaning: "O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and accepted deeds."

This dua is recommended after the Fajr prayer, as the morning hours are blessed for seeking provision. The term "rizqan tayyiban" (goodly provision) refers to lawful, pure sustenance that brings barakah (blessing).

The Dua of Prophet Musa (AS) for Sustenance

One of the most profound duas from the Quran is that of Prophet Musa (AS) when he fled Egypt and sought Allah's provision. He said:

{ "رَبِّ إِنِّى لِمَآ أَنزَلْتَ إِلَىَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍۢ فَقِيرٌۭ" }

Transliteration: "Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqeer."

Meaning: "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need."

{ "رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِن لَّدُنكَ ذُرِّيَّةًۭ طَيِّبَةً ۖ إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ ٱلدُّعَآءِ" }

Transliteration: "Rabbi hab li min ladunka dhurriyyatan tayyibatan innaka sami'ud-du'a."

Meaning: "My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication."

Similarly, the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) prayed for provision in the form of a righteous community:

{ "رَبَّنَآ إِنِّىٓ أَسْكَنْتُ مِن ذُرِّيَّتِى بِوَادٍ غَيْرِ ذِى زَرْعٍ عِندَ بَيْتِكَ ٱلْمُحَرَّمِ رَبَّنَا لِيُقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَٱجْعَلْ أَفْـِٔدَةًۭ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ تَهْوِىٓ إِلَيْهِمْ وَٱرْزُقْهُم مِّنَ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْكُرُونَ" }

Transliteration: "Rabbana inni askantu min dhurriyyati biwadin ghayri dhi zar'in 'inda baytik al-muharrami rabbana li yuqeemus-salaata faj'al af'idatan minan-nasi tahwi ilayhim warzuqhum minath-thamarati la'allahum yashkuroon."

Meaning: "Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your sacred House, our Lord, that they may establish prayer. So make hearts among the people incline toward them and provide for them from the fruits that they may be grateful."

Practical Means of Increasing Rizq

While supplication is essential, the Quran and prophetic teachings emphasize that rizq is tied to actions. Taqwa (consciousness of Allah) is a key means:

{ "وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُۥ مَخْرَجًۭا وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ" }

Transliteration: "Wa man yattaqillaha yaj'al lahu makhrajan wa yarzuqhu min haythu la yahtasib."

Meaning: "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect."

{ "مَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُبْسَطَ لَهُ فِي رِزْقِهِ، وَيُنْسَأَ لَهُ فِي أَثَرِهِ، فَلْيَصِلْ رَحِمَهُ" }

Transliteration: "Man ahabba an yubsata lahu fi rizqihi wa yunsa'a lahu fi atharihi falyasil rahimahu."
